Wednesday (11/26/14):
Our last day before Thanksgiving!
Fourth and Fifth grade worked on TypingWeb and posted their scores on a GoogleDoc. 
Mrs. McVitte's, Mrs. Postema's, Mrs. Nurenberg's,  and Mrs. Farlee's classes continued work on MobyMax. They are preparing to work independently on MobyMax as we will not be meeting in a Computer Lab once our building construction begins in January. 
Students are also accessed GoMath! curriculum that they are taught in regular education. This activity will reinforce what they are already learning with their classroom teacher.




Tuesday (11/25/14):
Fifth graders began a T.H.I.N.K. glog in which they documented thoughts about T.H.I.N.K. before they communicate:
T-Is is true?
H-Is it helpful?
I-Is it inspiring?
N-Is it necessary?
K-Is it kind? 
They worked on MobyMax. Their grades earned from this site will be included in their report cards.
Fifth grade earned Dojo points to spend remaining time on educational sites of their choice.

Fourth grade worked to finish their Marvelous Measurement assignment on Glogster EDU.
They spent time on Moby Max and remaining time was limited as they were chatty and chat time took time away from their free time.

Ms. Beedy's class worked on Christmas program practice. Second grade will be singing:

Monday (11/24/14):
Fifth graders worked on commenting on peer's Glogs. 
They worked on MobyMax. Their grades earned from this site will be included in their report cards.
Fifth grade earned Dojo points to spend remaining time on educational sites of their choice.

Fourth grade worked to finish their Marvelous Measurement assignment on Glogster EDU.

After they had completed the above tasks, students earning Dojo points were encouraged to go to educational sites.

Friday (11/21/14):
Fourth and Fifth grade worked on:
  • Typing Web
    • 4th grade goal: 15 words per minute
    • 5th grade goal: 20 words per minute
  • Sharpening their skills with Typing Web games
Mrs. McVitte's and Mrs. Farlee's classes will no longer be able to sharpen their typing skills as they are now, in a lab setting, so we are learning how to do this independently. We are exploring different web sites to do this. Today we looked at: http://www.freetypinggame.net/play10.asp

Mrs. Postema's and Mrs. Nurenberg's classes worked on keyboarding with Dance Mat Typing. Each week we track progress and reach different levels as we achieve word per minute goals.

Mr. O'Rourke's and Mrs. Joll's classes worked on their keyboarding skills. To accommodate loss of lab use during construction, they worked on this web page to sharpen their keyboard skills: http://www.powertyping.com/dvorak/typing.html

The pre-school class enjoyed the snow outdoors and did not come in for music.
Thursday (11/20/14):
Fifth grade:
Fourth grade:
  • sharpened their math skills with: Math Computation Practice: Multiply 2 Digits by 2 Digits (an online game practicing this skill)
  • edited their Glogster to meet requirements in measurement.
Ms. Beedy's class worked on Moby Max in preparation for working independently in their regular classroom during school construction. At this point, computer class will be held in a "whole class" scenario as Mrs. V will be traveling room to room.

Mrs. Naessen's class earned a Dojo point party. They visited abcya.com

Mrs. Hollinshead's, Mrs. Parmenter's, and Ms. Whaley's classes sharpened their math skills by visiting these sites:


Ms. Snyder's class earned enough Dojo points for a "Party."This is a special day for students to choose pre-approved educational sites for their lab time.

Wednesday (11/19/14):
Fifth grade:
Students worked on their Glogster, documenting the Lunar Landers.
Fourth grade:

  • copied their spreadsheet data to their Glogster
  • inserted their bar graphs to their Glogster

Mrs. McVitte and Mrs. Farlee's classes worked on a Moby Max app from Edmodo.
Students are preparing for computer class to be on a cart, and assignments will be given via Moby Max for individualized instruction; as there will only be one student computer per classroom during construction.
Mrs. Postema's class earned a Dojo point party. They visited abcya.com
this was how they spent their entire computer lab class time.

There were no afternoon classes due to Professional Development in the afternoon.

Fifth grade created their Lunar Landers from last week's brainstorm ideas.








Fourth grade created their spreadsheets on Google Docs, converting feet and inches into decimals.

Friday (11/14/14):
Fourth and Fifth grade worked on:

  • Typing Web
    • 4th grade goal: 15 words per minute
    • 5th grade goal: 20 words per minute
  • Sharpening their skills with Typing Web games
Mrs. McVitte's and Mrs. Farlee's classes were unable to keyboard due to software upgrades. While the Macs were updating, they played 7Up with command keys. These hot key combinations are quick commands that are not menu driven. Examples taught were:

  • Command O=open
  • Command P=Print
  • Command S=Save
  • Command A=Select All
  • Command B=Bold
  • Command C=Copy
  • Command X=Cut
They also switched partners (as there are not enough workstations for students to have their own).

Mrs. Postema's and Mrs. Nurnberg's classes worked on Dance Mat Typying. Their progress is noted on a Google Doc and updated weekly.

Mrs. Joll's and Mr. O'Rourke's classes worked on keyboarding as well, and posted their scores on Google Docs.

Thursday (11/13/14):

Fourth graders:
Began their measurement assignment.

  1. Worked on a table converting inches to feet
  2. They chose teams
  3. They measured 10 people
  4. The converted measurements to feet and inches
  5. They converted measurements to only inches
Fifth grade:
Began an Engineering assignment, in which they will build: "Lunar Landers."

  1. Students chose teammates
  2. They brainstormed their strategy
  3. They documented their ideas
  4. They collected supplies
Students earned free time due to their excellent team work.

Mrs. Naessen's first grade:

  2. Worked on Math Skills with MobyMax
Ms. Beedy's class:

  • learned about Apple Computer Applications:

  • finishing their "The Box" assignment in which they imagined something they desired to created that would benefit the general public
  • students also drew and labeled their creations on Libre Office
Mrs. Baker's pre-school:

Wednesday (11/12/14):

Fourth graders began a measurement unit, in which they will be converting inches to feet and vice verse. This will involve peers.

Fifth graders began  a Lunar Lander unit in which they will be participating in a brainstorming activity of creating and then engineering a Lunar Lander using marshmallows. They practiced their landing capabilities with this web site: http://moonlander.seb.ly/
Students will collect data and post it on Glogster.

Mrs. Farlee's, Mr. O'Rourke's,  and Mrs. McVitte's classes earned enough Dojo points for a "Party."This is a special day for students to choose pre-approved educational sites for their lab time.

  • downloading a document
  • editing a document
  • using drawing tools on Libre Office
Mrs. Joll's class finished their: "The Box" assignment, and worked on Moby Max as they continued to sharpen their math skills.

Mrs. Whaley's class:
  • reviewed definitions of Forte and Piano
  • learning the definition of Lento and Presto
  • applying these attributes to songs we know

Tuesday (11/11/14):
Fourth and Fifth reviewed ledger lines:
Mrs. Beedy's class did not meet as they performed their songs for the Veteran's Day Assembly.
Mrs. Naessen's class:
  •  worked on rhythms 
  • sang Thanksgiving songs and 
  • listened to potential Christmas music. 
Ms. Snyder's class worked on:
  • reading rhythms
  • playing rhythms on rhythm instruments
  • sing Solfege syllables while playing instruments

Thursday (11/6/14):
Fourth and Fifth grades:

  • logged on to their server accounts
  • logged on to Edmodo
  • navigated to Moby Max where they worked on CCSS aligned math skills
  • earned Dojo points which determined where they would spend the last 10 minutes of class at.
Ms. Beedy's class finished their Prezi presentations and began work on Moby Max.

MobyMax is for all students. Moby's adaptive curriculum creates a unique, individualized education plan for each student, allowing gifted students to progress as quickly as they like while simultaneously ensuring that remedial students get the extra instruction they need.

Mrs. Naessen's class logged onto Edmodo and then navigated to web pages that reinforce what is being taught in their regular education classroom.

Wednesday (11/5/14):
Fourth grade met in the computer lab where they began their Edmodo accounts.
  1. Edmodo is an educational website that takes the ideas of a social network and refines them and makes it appropriate for a classroom. Using Edmodo, students and teachers can reach out to one another and connect by sharing ideas, problems, and helpful tips.
Students also observed Dojo. They learned that their behavior earns them points or costs them points. Their points become their currency for which web sites they can go to when they earn free time, after content classwork is completed.

Fifth grade also began their Edmodo accounts. They also got their Dojo avatars customized and were asked to have parents sign a permission slip so that they (the parents) could be emailed to check on progress of their student's progress.
Mrs. McVitte's and Mrs. Farlee's classes finished their Prezi presentations and began work on Moby Max.

Fourth and Fifth grade met in regular classrooms due to MAP testing in the computer lab.

They worked more on Solfege ear training via use of iPad and tone recognition. Students worked on music symbol recognition too, through an all class game.

Mrs. Naessen's, Ms. Ferden's, Ms. Snyders, Mrs. Parmeter's,  and Ms. Beedy's classes worked on our Veteran's Day Assembly songs:

Mrs. Joll's and Mr. O'Rourke's classes worked on the songs above plus they learned a new Thanksgiving song called: I Count My Blessings.
